Elias Mercer
Every great story begins with a character who feels real—someone who is flawed, driven, and searching for meaning. In The Last Patriot, that person is Elias Mercer.
Elias isn’t a larger-than-life hero who always knows the right thing to do. He’s a man caught between the weight of his past and the uncertainty of his future. What makes him so compelling isn’t just his courage, but his vulnerability. He wrestles with questions we all face: Who am I meant to be? What do I truly believe in? How do I stand firm when everything around me seems to be crumbling?
What makes Elias stand out is his depth. He’s strong, yet haunted. He’s a fighter, but he longs for peace. His journey reminds us that even the bravest among us struggle with doubt, loss, and the cost of doing what’s right. That complexity makes him more than just a character in a book—he feels like someone we might know, or even like a reflection of ourselves in moments of struggle. I see a lot of him in me which is probably why I wrote him the way I did. I too struggle with the same fears and doubts that Elias goes through but it's not about whether or not we feel these things but how do we push through.
When you read The Last Patriot, what you will see in Elias Mercer is the grit, resilience, and hope it takes to push forward when the odds are stacked high. He’s not perfect—but that’s exactly what makes him unforgettable.
Thanks for taking the time to read this blog and come back tomorrow. I am going to introduce a character that made me laugh a few times as I wrote him into life.
